What to See and Do in Battambang
Battambang Province is often called the rice bowl of Cambodia. A lot of its rice production and processing into rice paper (used for spring rolls) and noodles, along with other agricultural activities happen in the province. When visiting Battambang, there are a number of places that are worth a trip lying immediately outside the city of Battambang. Below you will find a list of the most interesting and well-visited of those places.

Pailin and Around
Explore the border near Thailand with a trip to Pailin at the Northern edge of the Cardamom Mountains. Known to have remained a Khmer Rouge stronghold, long after they were defeated in 1979.

Wat Ek Phnom
A partly collapsed, 11th-century temple situated 11km north of Battambang, is surrounded by the remains of a laterite wall and an ancient reservoir. A lintel showing the Churning of the Ocean of Milk can be seen above the east entrance to the central temple, whose upper flanks hold some fine bas-reliefs.

Kamping Pouy basin is vital to the area. It is now a popular picnic site for residents of Pailin and Battambang because of its fresh air. Lotus flowers grow in the water and nearby you can buy lotus seeds to eat. They are delicious and taste a bit like sweet, uncooked peas.
